My small town (My really small town)

September 19, 2008

I love my town.  Cartersville is a small town in NW Georgia.  It’s Ronnie Brown’s hometown.  It has great high school sports.  The Booth Western Art Museum.  The Indian Mounds.  Great parks and decent restaurants.  And, of course, it’s home to Oak Leaf Church.

Because I love my town, I reserve the right to make fun of it.  🙂  Actually, it’s just a little observation.  Cartersville has grown a ton over the past 5 years.  (Proof:  We have a Starbucks.  ha.)  Despite that growth though, I was reminded today just how small we may still be.  I was at a local establishment and was paying for services rendered when the lady working behind the counter pulls out a debit card processing machine.  She went on to describe what the machine does and that they had just gotten it.  I didn’t say much because I couldn’t tell if she was trying to be funny or if she was truly serious.  I kid you not, after I entered my pin and the transaction was complete, she had the biggest smile on her face and kept saying things like, “Isn’t that just the neatest thing…I think it’s great.”

This encounter reminded just how small we still are.  When we are still excited over debit card machines (that have been out for what…a decade?  2 decades?), maybe we haven’t “arrived yet”.

Good times.
